Dr. Amen Sergew is the founder of Integrative Pulmonary Clinic and a dual board-certified pulmonologist and critical care physician. She earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Minnesota before pursuing a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado in 2006. After fellowship, she spent nearly a year practicing pulmonary medicine in New Zealand before returning to the United States.
Dr. Sergew joined National Jewish Health, where she served as Director of the Chronic Respiratory Failure Program and co-directed the ALS Clinic. She also directed the ICU at the Veterans Administration in Aurora, Colorado. In 2024, she enrolled in the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona's Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, deepening her whole-person approach to respiratory care. Her clinical passions include ALS and neuromuscular respiratory diseases, chronic respiratory failure, sleep medicine, breathing techniques, and integrative pulmonary medicine. She holds elected membership in the American College of Chest Physicians Home-based Mechanical Ventilation and Neuromuscular Disease Network. She also served as a Technical Expert Panelist on Non-Invasive Ventilation for CMS and as a member of the American Thoracic Society Health Policy Committee. Dr. Sergew co-founded Scopes and Shields, an organization of physicians and lawyers working to improve the care, privacy, and dignity of incarcerated patients. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, knitting, traveling, listening to podcasts, and spending time in nature.
