About

At Lantern Health, six family physicians deliver direct primary care across two Asheville locations. Dr. Ben Aiken founded the practice in 2018, originally under the name Avenu Health as part of the Mission Health system. He took the practice independent in 2020 and rebranded as Lantern Health. The Downtown location on South French Broad Avenue and the South location on Crispin Court each function as hyper-local care teams for their surrounding communities.

The practice serves patients of all ages, from newborns through adults, with a clinical scope that extends well beyond routine primary care. Physicians at Lantern Health handle prenatal care and deliveries at Mission Hospital, sports medicine, men's health including vasectomy, LGBTQ health, palliative care, and chronic disease management. Members also access integrative health coaching, mindfulness and stress reduction, and wholesale pricing on labs, prescriptions through Sona Pharmacy, and imaging. Appointments run 30 to 60 minutes, and members reach their physician by phone around the clock for urgent needs.
