Dr. Liz TwardonMD

Family Medicine

at Twardon Family Care PLLC — Asheville, NC

About

Dr. Liz Twardon brought an unusual path to medicine. She started her career as a reporter at the Detroit News at age 21, covering everything from police beats to front-page features. A Rotary scholarship took her to Calcutta, India, where she volunteered at Mother Teresa's Kalighat home and a street clinic run by Dr. Jack Praeger. That experience set her on the road to medicine.

She returned to Detroit, began pre-med coursework while working nights as a reporter, and earned acceptance to Harvard Medical School in under two years. At Harvard, she learned Spanish and French and completed rotations in the Dominican Republic and La Paz, Bolivia. Her French fluency earned her a three-month fellowship at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambarene, Gabon. She completed her Family Medicine residency at a Community Health Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, serving primarily Spanish-speaking and Hmong patients. A two-month exchange in Chiang Mai, Thailand deepened her training in infectious diseases. Dr. Twardon speaks Polish, English, Spanish, and French. She chose family medicine because she loved caring for patients of all ages and backgrounds. She has called Asheville home since 2005 and has spent her career protecting time with patients above all else.
