About

Robert Anderson, MD, grew up in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, and never left for long. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1987, graduating as a Whitehead Scholar. He then attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, where he received the Marie Boone Endowment Scholarship and graduated in 1991.

Dr. Anderson completed his Family Medicine residency at Methodist Hospital of Indiana, a large downtown Indianapolis hospital where trauma certification at the Level I Trauma Center was required. His peers and faculty selected him as Chief Resident of the Family Medicine Program. After training, he returned to Asheville and joined Asheville Family Medicine as one of five partners before opening Biltmore Family Medicine in 2004. He holds board certification in Family Medicine and has recertified four times over his career. He serves as a Clinical Preceptor for medical and advanced healthcare students, holds Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and contributes as a Credentials Reviewer at Mission Hospitals. He belongs to the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the North Carolina Medical Society, among other professional organizations. A lifelong Ashevillean, Dr. Anderson is married to his teenage sweetheart, Tracy. They have three children and three grandsons. He enjoys hiking, traveling, clogging, square dancing, and participating in medical mission trips both domestically and abroad.
