Family Medicine

at Sanguine Direct Primary Care — Moscow, ID

About

Dr. Helen Shearer earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock in 1998. She chose Idaho State University's Family Medicine Residency in Pocatello for its strong rural medicine and obstetrics training, graduating in 2001. She arrived on the Palouse with a six-month-old son and never left.

Over 25 years, Dr. Shearer practiced the full range of family medicine: hospital admissions, ICU care, obstetrics, newborn care, pediatric admissions, urgent care, and clinic medicine. She also completed medical mission work in Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Those trips sharpened her ability to listen closely, ask the right questions, and solve problems creatively with whatever tools she has available. She treats diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, depression, anxiety, perimenopause, and many other conditions. Outside the clinic, she and her husband James hike, backpack, fly fish, and explore the Northwest. She is still a devoted Arkansas Razorback fan.
