Dr. Charles W. Smith Jr. trained entirely at the University of North Carolina, completing his undergraduate education, medical degree, and Family Medicine residency there. He holds board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine and earned the FAAFP designation. His career spans more than four decades in medicine, beginning in private practice before he moved into academic medicine at increasingly senior levels.
Dr. Smith served as Dean of the School of Primary Medical Care at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. In 2000, he founded eDocAmerica, a web-based health information company that earned the Arkansas Small Business of the Year award in 2006. Dr. Smith is passionate about preventive medicine, chronic pain and opioid management, colorectal and prostate cancer screening, hypertension, and participatory medicine. He believes patients who understand their own health make better decisions. Outside of medicine, he has completed five marathons, cycles regularly, and enjoys long walks. He and his wife Connie have six children and eleven grandchildren.
