About

Shane Hernesman, MD, CAQSM, grew up in the Midwest as the son of a registered nurse. That upbringing gave him an early appreciation for the doctor-patient relationship. He carried that value through every stage of his medical training.

Dr. Hernesman earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1993, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin/Marquette University School of Medicine in 1997. He completed both his internship and Family Medicine residency at the La Crosse - Mayo Clinic Health System, Franciscan-Skemp Healthcare, Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Departments of Family and Community Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery. He holds dual board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and carries the Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine (CAQSM). Dr. Hernesman belongs to the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and the Mayo Medical Alumni Association. He has practiced in Brevard County for nearly two decades. His clinical interests include diabetes, heart disease, sexual health, and orthopedic and sports medicine conditions, including joint injections. Outside of medicine, he enjoys sports, hockey, running, movies, travel, and sports card collecting.
