About
Kenneth D. Henson, MD, FACC grew up with medicine in his family. His father practiced as a small-town family doctor, and as a teenager Dr. Henson worked in that practice after school and accompanied his father on late-night house calls. S. in Zoology from Mississippi State University as both a Dean's Scholar and President's Scholar, then completed his medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. After his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, he worked full-time as an emergency department physician before beginning cardiology training. He completed his Cardiology fellowship at the University of Florida Health Science Center as Chief Cardiology Fellow, then trained in Interventional Cardiology at Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center, then one of the busiest cardiac programs in the world. There he helped develop and test coronary stents, lasers, atherectomy devices, and new pharmacologic treatments.
Dr. Henson holds board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine. He has practiced in Sarasota since 1995 and previously served as Chief of Cardiology at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He later shifted his clinical focus from interventional procedures to preventive cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging. Castle Connolly has recognized him as a Top Doctor for several years.
