Dr. Daniel Cooper built one of the most clinically distinctive concierge practices in Southwest Florida. He holds board certification in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology, carries an additional qualification in Cardiac Pacing, and holds the designation of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He trained in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, completing his residency across Buffalo General Hospital and Erie County Medical Center. He then earned a Cardiology Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, one of a small number of physicians accepted to that program each year. A second Fellowship in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Pacing, also at the Cleveland Clinic, followed. He later completed Internal Medicine Recertification at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Cooper grew up moving between Rio de Janeiro and New York City. He earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's top medical school, and during his student years received a National Research Council grant to study vascular effects of smoking in patients with atherosclerosis and diabetes. The Heart Rhythm Society recognized his early work with pacemakers by awarding him the prestigious Young Investigator Award. He arrived in Sarasota in 1987 as the first Electrophysiologist in Southwest Florida, developed the Electrophysiology Catheterization Lab at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and performed the region's first Electrical Mapping of the Heart, first Implantable Defibrillator surgery, and first Radiofrequency Ablation of rapid heart beat. He served as Director of the Electrophysiology Lab at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Today he holds an appointment as Associate Professor of Cardiology and Medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine, Sarasota Campus, where his peers and students chose him to receive the FSU Outstanding Faculty Award. He volunteers at the Community Free Health Clinic and speaks English, Portuguese, French, Italian, Spanish, and Yiddish. His wife Lisa, a former Sarasota Memorial Hospital Clinical Manager, manages the practice.
