James "Jay" Stevens, MD, CAQSM, ABAARM, FAAFP, founded Essential Health after three decades of practicing primary care and sports medicine in Cary, North Carolina. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine, board certification through the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine, and Fellow status in the American Academy of Family Physicians. His career included group private practice and roles as a hospital-employed physician and physician leader. That experience shaped his desire to build something different.
