Dr. George Chaconas earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech in 1981. He then completed his Doctorate of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk in 1984. He completed both his internship and Family Medicine residency at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, finishing his residency in 1987.

Dr. Chaconas holds dual board certifications: Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He is one of only 21 doctors in Virginia to earn that lipidology certification. The National Lipid Association named him a Fellow, and he serves as a Board Member for its Southeast Region. In 2011, he became Lead Physician and Owner of the Lipid Center of Virginia. He also operates the Center for Advanced Lipid Management, a regional referral center in Roanoke.
