He then practiced full-spectrum primary care in rural Colorado, covering outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and geriatric care. For seven years, he served as medical director of a rural nursing home, caring for many residents living with dementia.

In 2013, Dr. LaPerriere discovered the Institute for Functional Medicine while searching for better tools to help complex patients. That discovery redirected his career. He obtained his IFM Certification in Functional Medicine in April 2017 and completed Dr. Dale Bredesen's Reversing Cognitive Decline Advanced Training Course that same year. 0 Certified Practitioner status. A family member's rapid cognitive decline deepened his personal commitment to this work. Today, dementia treatment and prevention represent the majority of his practice. His clinical expertise also spans bioidentical hormone therapy, gut health, thyroid disease, cardiovascular reversal, autoimmune illness, mold-related illness, heavy metal detoxification, peptide therapy, plasmalogen therapy, and chronic infections including Lyme disease.
