The practice also provides direct cell phone and email access to Dr. Carlson.

Yes. The annual fee covers professional services within the practice, but you should keep your health insurance. You will need it for specialist visits, hospitalizations, labs, imaging, and other services outside Dr. Carlson's office.

Dr. Carlson does not participate with any insurance plans, including Medicare. However, PPO members may submit itemized invoices to their insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. The practice guarantees same-day or next business day appointments. For urgent matters after hours, patients reach Dr. Carlson directly by cell phone, and she returns calls within 10 to 15 minutes.

When Dr. Carlson is away, an experienced board-certified internist provides outpatient coverage. That covering physician can contact Dr. Carlson directly if needed. The practice also makes every effort to ensure that hospitalized patients receive care from the covering physician at Howard County General Hospital.

The practice reimburses departing patients on a pro-rated basis, calculated by whole months remaining in the contract year. If you have already received your annual physical for the year, the practice deducts $600 from the pro-rated refund.
