About
At Avalon Primary Care, Dr. Louise R. Butler, DO, brings over two decades of Lancaster-area family medicine experience to a Direct Primary Care practice she founded in 2019. She trained in Maine, completed her Family Practice residency in Lancaster in 1994, and spent years practicing in North Carolina and Western Maryland before returning to Lancaster in 2001. Her core belief is simple: listen carefully, and the patient will guide you to the right diagnosis and treatment.
The practice covers a wide range of family medicine services under a straightforward monthly membership. Appointments run 30 to 60 minutes, and Dr. Butler offers same-day visits, telemedicine, and home visits for established patients. Members reach her by phone, text, email, or video call. The membership covers physicals, sick visits, procedures such as skin lesion removals and joint injections, Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy, and paperwork visits. Members also receive significant discounts on medications and lab testing. Medicare recipients pay no monthly fee. The practice name draws from the city of Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, Avalon, New Jersey, and the mythical healing island from the Legend of King Arthur.

Dr. Butler chose the name Avalon from three sources meaningful to her. She grew up near Santa Catalina Island in Southern California, where the city of Avalon holds cherished memories. She also spent time near Avalon, New Jersey. The name connects to the mythical island of Avalon from the Legend of King Arthur, described as a healing island filled with fruit trees. The practice logo represents those trees, the chalice, and the sword of Excalibur.
