About
Dr. Tom Etges has held board certification in Family Medicine since 1992, building one of Eugene's most clinically diverse primary care practices. He earned his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University, completed medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and trained through the Marquette Family Practice Residency Program. Early in his career, he recognized that Western medicine alone left gaps in treating chronic pain and complex conditions. That recognition sent him to the Helms Medical Institute in 2001 for formal training in medical acupuncture. He later pursued functional medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine, deepening his focus on root-cause diagnosis.
Dr. Etges added musculoskeletal ultrasound-guided injection training through MSKUS and regenerative medicine techniques through the Hackett Hemwall Patterson Foundation, enabling him to offer prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma therapy in-office. He is a senior faculty preceptor with the Helms Medical Institute and the Acus Foundation, teaching medical acupuncture to civilian and military healthcare providers since 2011. His clinical interests span gastrointestinal health, chronic and acute pain, women's health, allergies, stress management, mental health support, and musculoskeletal medicine. Eugene Magazine named him a Top Doctor in both Family Practice and Acupuncture in 2010, 2011, and 2013. He holds memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, the Oregon Medical Association, and the Oregon Association of Family Physicians.
