About
Thomas G. Serio, MD has built his career around a single conviction: patients need to know how much you care before they care how much you know. A first-year professor shared that idea with him at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, and it became the foundation of his practice. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in 1993. His academic path also included a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Professional Studies from the University of Notre Dame, a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida, and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Duke University. He completed his Family Practice residency at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he was selected as Co-Chief Resident. Dr. Serio holds certification as a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Serio has practiced family medicine in Tallahassee for more than three decades. He has served as an Assistant Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine since 1997 and previously held the role of Assistant Director for Clinical Affairs in the Program in Medical Sciences from 1994 to 1997. The American Academy of Family Physicians recognized him with a Leadership Award in 1993. He maintains membership in both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. He sees his role as more than diagnosis and treatment; he aims to educate, coach, and support each patient through every aspect of their care.
