About
Thomas G. Ling, MD brings over 30 years of internal medicine experience to Docs by the Bay. He grew up in the Birmingham-Troy area north of Detroit and earned a degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He completed medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, then pursued his Internal Medicine residency at Royal Oak Beaumont, where all three years focused exclusively on adult care.
After training, Dr. Ling accepted his first and only job interview at Burns Clinic in Petoskey, where he practiced traditional Internal Medicine for 20 years. He then spent roughly seven years in hospital-based medicine at Munson, McLaren, Charlevoix, and several regional hospitals. Most recently, he logged eight years of outpatient Internal Medicine at Charlevoix Primary Care before co-founding Docs by the Bay. He approaches medicine as a series of intellectual puzzles, always working toward a unifying diagnosis from a patient's full picture of signs and symptoms. Outside the office, he stays active through golf, biking, hiking, boating, kayaking, skiing, and woodworking. He and his wife Mary have three adult children and welcomed their first grandchild, Wesley, in 2024.
