Dr. Steve Baker is a board-certified family physician and the founder of Main Street Family Medicine in Vancouver, Washington. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami in Florida. Before completing his residency, he served as a medical officer aboard the USS New Jersey for two years. He then deployed as a battalion surgeon with the US Marines during Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. After his military service, he completed his Family Medicine residency at Providence St. Peter Medical Center in Olympia, Washington.
Dr. Baker holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He has taught family medicine residents in Vancouver as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington since 2001. Since 1996, he has served as medical director of New Heights Clinic, a faith-based practice caring for uninsured patients with financial hardship. For 15 years, he partnered with Dr. Julius Surjadi, traveling to Papua, Indonesia to help build a healthcare training program for tribal church workers serving remote communities. Outside medicine, Dr. Baker enjoys gardening, hiking, traveling, and kayaking with his wife Jackie.
