About

Dr. Soujanya Donthu is a board-certified internist with more than 20 years of clinical experience. She earned her medical degree from Osmania Medical College in India, one of the country's most respected institutions. Her residency training in Internal Medicine took place through Temple University at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania. During her training, she completed the majority of her electives at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University. She also collaborated with gastroenterologist Dr. James Reynolds on a research project at Hahnemann University Hospital, where she later worked as an attending physician. After relocating to Texas, she joined Texas Health Internal Medicine before founding Saffron Health.

Dr. Donthu pursued additional training through the Institute of Functional Medicine after a personal health experience reshaped her clinical thinking. In early 2019, she developed Laryngopharyngeal reflux that went unresolved after eight months of treatment by three specialists. She resolved her symptoms in three months through an elimination diet and a daily yogic practice called Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya. That breakthrough led her to integrate functional medicine fully into her practice. Her clinical focus spans hormonal health, autoimmune conditions, digestive disorders, mental wellbeing, and Long Covid. She grew up in India, where her father, a physician, organized free rural health camps. She accompanied him from age 8 through medical school, treating patients alongside him near graduation. Dr. Donthu is an active vegetarian with a passion for yoga. She is a wife, daughter, and mother of two sons.
