Dr. Sean Downing built a career around a simple conviction: experience sharpens diagnosis, and early diagnosis saves lives. S. A. in History at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After graduating, he spent a winter in Saas Fee, Switzerland working as a ski instructor before returning to Boston.

Back in Boston, Dr. Downing spent several years at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Molecular Biology Unit of the Cardiology Department. S. in Physiology at Georgetown University before going on to complete his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. His residency training combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Brown University in Providence, RI, where he shared a chief residency in his final year. After residency, he fulfilled a three-year commitment as a National Health Service Scholar in Southern New Hampshire, providing primary care to uninsured patients in a medically underserved community. He then spent eleven years with First Physicians Group in Sarasota caring for families, followed by three years at the concierge practice Sarasota Personal Medicine. In the fall of 2019, he opened his own practice to treat both adults and children under one roof. Now more than twenty years into his career, Dr. Downing still sees patients of all ages, makes house calls, and visits hospitalized members at Sarasota Memorial. Outside the office, he plays golf and tennis, volunteers locally, and visits family in Ireland nearly every year.
