Dr. Rhett McLaren grew up in Houston, Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University in 1991. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His residency training in pediatrics took place at the Dayton Children's Hospital and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center combined program in Dayton, Ohio. He served in the United States Air Force during both medical school and residency.

After completing his training, Dr. McLaren served as an active duty staff pediatrician at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana for four years. He then practiced in the Shreveport area for 20 of the following 22 years, with two years spent in Nashville, Tennessee while his wife trained at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He holds the Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) designation and has accumulated more than 30 years of clinical experience. Seeking a deeper understanding of healthcare economics, he completed an MBA with a focus in healthcare at the University of Texas at Tyler. His clinical interests include ADHD and ADD management, asthma, allergy care, sublingual immunotherapy, behavioral problems, and depression and anxiety.
