About

Michael L. D. has practiced family medicine in Baldwin County since completing his residency in 1976. He earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, then his medical degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine. His internship took place at the University of Oklahoma Hospital and Clinics in Oklahoma City, followed by residency training at the College of Community Health Sciences in Tuscaloosa. He received board certification in family practice in 1976 and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice Physicians in 1979.

A. and built his career on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay for nearly four decades before opening Family Medicine Specialists in 2014. He served as Medical Director of Thomas Hospital for 24 years and as Vice President of Medical Affairs there from 1998 to 2022. He also held a Clinical Associate Professor appointment at UAB, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Past leadership roles include President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, President of the Baldwin County Medical Society, and Chairman of the Family Practice Rural Health Board. He helped establish the Internal Medicine Residency at Thomas Hospital. A lifelong Fairhope resident, Dr. McBrearty and his wife Cindy have four children and ten grandchildren. When he is not seeing patients, he enjoys boating, gardening, home repairs, and spending time with his grandchildren.
