Family Medicine

at Hey Doc Direct

About

Dr. Michael Kurz grew up farming and ranching in rural Somerset, Texas. He credits his older brother Kevin, now deceased, as his greatest guide and inspiration. That foundation of faith, hard work, and relationship-building has shaped how he practices medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Science Center. After completing his residency, he returned to South Texas and joined South Texas Regional Medical Center in 2012. He later established his own private practice, caring for patients across Atascosa and surrounding counties.

Dr. Kurz entered primary care in 2010 and spent 14 years navigating the corporate medicine model before launching Hey Doc Direct. He holds board-eligible standing in Family Medicine and focuses clinically on chronic disease management, preventive care, hypertension, heart disease, back pain, and risk reduction. He currently serves as Medical Director for Atascosa County EMS, Medical Director for the Atascosa County Jail, and Hospice Medical Director for a local hospice. He also collaborates with local nurse practitioners to extend care throughout the community. Faith, family, and community remain central to both his personal life and his approach to medicine.
