Dr. Louis M. Cohen grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and earned his undergraduate degree in microbiology with honors from Cornell University. He graduated from the State University of New York Medical School at Syracuse in 1982 and completed his Internal Medicine residency at UMDNJ Rutgers University in 1985, with additional training at Princeton Hospital.
Dr. Cohen built a distinguished research record in Sarasota, serving as lead investigator in more than 100 research programs at Clinical Studies from 1992 to 2001. That work sharpened his focus on cholesterol disorders and osteoporosis. He trained under Dr. Antonio Gotto at Baylor University in one of the country's first lipid disorders programs. He holds board certifications in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, and earned certification in osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment from the International Society of Clinical Densitometry in 2001. Dr. Cohen also served as a founding member of Intercoastal Medical Group and as Chief of Internal Medicine at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He co-founded LernerCohen Healthcare in 2005.
