Dr. Howard Holtz earned his training at University Hospital at UMDNJ in Newark, where he served as Chief Medical Resident in 1984. From 1984 to 1987, he fulfilled a United States Public Health Service commitment in an underserved health manpower shortage area in Newark. He then joined the UMDNJ teaching faculty, remaining there until 1991. That year, he moved to Saint Barnabas Medical Center to become Associate Chairman of Medicine, where he also founded the Faculty Practice. He established his full-time private practice in West Orange in 2002.

Dr. Holtz holds board certification in Internal Medicine. NJ Magazine named him a Top Doctor in Internal Medicine every year from 2006 through 2016. He received the Burton L. Eichler Award in November 2011 for humanitarian and community contributions. Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society inducted him during his first eligible year. He has also earned Golden Apple Teaching Awards from New Jersey Medical School and the St. Barnabas Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program.
