About

Dr. Heath Bettencourtt is a board-certified pediatrician with more than two decades of clinical experience. A native of the West Bank of New Orleans, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of New Orleans. He completed his medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 1996 and went on to residency training at Children's Hospital and University Hospital in New Orleans. He served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at University Hospital from 1999 to 2000.

Before joining Leaf Medical, Dr. Bettencourtt spent over 20 years in practice in Gretna, Louisiana. During that time, he mentored pediatric residents, medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students for 13 years. He helped develop a baby-friendly breastfeeding initiative and designation at Ochsner West Bank Medical Center and taught Anatomy and Physiology at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. He also volunteered at an orphanage in China and summited Mount Kilimanjaro in 2013. He serves as a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and sees patients at the Carroll Gardens and DUMBO locations. His clinical interests include newborn care, breastfeeding, pediatric nutrition, obesity care, asthma, and preventive care.
