Dr. Frances Koe, MD, MPH has practiced family medicine in Collinsville, Alabama since October 2007. She made the decision to pursue medicine at age 31, first earning a Master of Public Health in Health Behavior from the School of Public Health. She then took the MCAT and applied to medical school. An advisor introduced her to the Rural Medical Scholars Program, and she earned the top selection out of all applicants. Dr. Koe entered the University of Alabama School of Medicine at age 39. She is believed to be the first grandmother to attend medical school there. She completed her family medicine residency at Tuscaloosa Family Medicine, graduating in 2007.
