Dr. Elizabeth Carstensen is a Birmingham native who knew she wanted to practice primary care medicine from the time she was in fourth grade. She graduated from Mountain Brook High School and went on to Davidson College in North Carolina, where she majored in psychology with a minor in chemistry. At Wake Forest University School of Medicine, she earned distinction as the outstanding student in family medicine and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She then matched at her top-choice residency program at the University of Virginia, training in family medicine with a strong foundation in pediatrics, internal medicine, geriatrics, and women's health.

After residency, Dr. Carstensen worked at a practice in Atlanta before returning home to Birmingham, where she spent five years in a local practice before joining Cahaba Concierge Medicine. She is passionate about preventive medicine and takes time to know each patient before crafting a care plan. She loves caring for the full family span, from birth through geriatric years. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her husband Evan, an orthopedic surgeon, and their two young sons.
