About
Dr. David Gilbert founded Downeast Primary Care in Greenville, NC, bringing deep roots in the region to his practice. He grew up in Winterville, graduated from Greenville Christian Academy, and earned his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience in 2005. He completed his MD at ECU's Brody School of Medicine in 2010. His Family Medicine residency took him to the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where he rose to Chief Resident. He spent a year on faculty at Louisville before returning home to Winterville to be closer to family.
For the decade that followed, Dr. Gilbert held course and clerkship directorships at ECU's Brody School of Medicine and served as Interim Associate Dean for Medical Education. He maintained an active clinical practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings throughout those years. He calls himself a "yes and" doctor, combining pharmaceutical, procedural, lifestyle, and alternative treatment options to give patients more choices. He and his wife Heather homeschool their two daughters. Outside the clinic, he fishes, trains at a powerlifting gym, watches F1 racing, and tends a garden.
