David DeAtkine Jr, MD, FACE brings an unusually deep clinical background to primary and endocrine care in Birmingham. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Rice University in 1983, graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa Scholar. He then earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in 1987, supported by a Southwestern Foundation Scholarship.
Dr. DeAtkine completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Endocrine Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, finishing his fellowship training in 1992. He served as Vice President of the ADA Regional Executive Council from 2007 to 2014. In 1998, he earned First Prize for Excellence in Clinical Research from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
