About
Dr. Crystal Maxwell is a board-certified family medicine physician and the founder of LIGHT Family Wellness in Fort Mill, South Carolina. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at the University of Tennessee in 2010. Before launching the practice, she served as Chief Medical Officer of a multi-site community health center in South Carolina from 2012 to 2020. That decade of leadership sharpened her focus on access, affordability, and patient-centered care.
Growing up in rural Mississippi, Dr. Maxwell experienced healthcare access challenges firsthand. When her grandfather received a cancer diagnosis at age 14, the family traveled over 40 miles for his care. Those early experiences shaped her goal of serving as a trusted medical translator for patients. She spent 10 years in traditional primary care before moving to the DPC model. Today she focuses on metabolic health, insulin resistance, hormone therapy, perimenopause and menopause care, weight management, hair restoration, and skin rejuvenation. She co-authored "The Chronicles of Women in White Coats 2," released in May 2020. The South Carolina Primary Health Care Association selected her as Provider of the Year in 2015. The Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce named her among the top 10 business leaders under 40 in 2021. In 2021, she received confirmation as a Commissioner of the South Carolina Mental Health Commission, and earned special recognition for that service in 2024. Dr. Maxwell serves on the boards of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce and HOPE in Lancaster. She also serves as Healthcare Ministry Coordinator of her church and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
