Dr. Christian Wathen is a board-certified internist and Fellow of the American College of Physicians. She earned a dual undergraduate degree in Pre-Professional and Molecular Biology from Florida Institute of Technology, graduating with high honors. East Tennessee State University awarded her medical degree. She then completed her residency at Christiana Care Health Services in Wilmington, Delaware.
After residency, Dr. Wathen worked as a hospitalist at Christiana Care Hospital. She later served as Medical Director for VITAS Hospice before joining Riverside Medical Group in 2007 as an outpatient internist in Deltaville. She eventually brought her practice to Mathews, VA, a place woven into her personal history. Her family has lived in Mathews County since the 1700s. Her great grandmother and grandmother were born on the same property where she currently resides. Some of her earliest memories include crabbing in the Piankatank River with her great-great Aunt Pauline Simmons. Dr. Wathen attends Cornerstone Fellowship Church, where she and her family have served since 2007. She currently teaches Sunday school to 11- to 14-year-olds. She and her husband Tom have been married for 28 years and have three children.
