Carlos E. Picone, MD, FACP, FCCP grew up in Esperanza, Argentina, the son of Duilio Picone, an Internal Medicine and GI physician. He arrived in Virginia before his 17th birthday, guided by a mentorship connection with Dr. Enrique Gerszten at the Medical College of Virginia. That path led him to medical school at the National University of Cordoba, Argentina, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1989.
Dr. Picone completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia. He then pursued two fellowships: one in Critical Care Medicine at the National Institutes of Health and one in Pulmonary Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia. He holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Picone is passionate about evidence-based medicine and preventive care.
