About
Dr. Bassem K. Khalil grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, in a family devoted to medicine. His father worked as a surgeon and his mother as a pharmacist. That upbringing gave him an early and personal understanding of what dedicated healthcare looks like. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Alexandria School of Medicine in 2007. He then completed his internship and Internal Medicine residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, finishing in 2014.
Since 2014, Dr. Khalil has served as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He brings more than 15 years of clinical experience focused on preventive medicine. During his residency, he served on the Ethics Committee at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and contributed as a reviewer for the Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives. His published research spans liver-directed gene delivery, bariatric endoscopy procedures, and pancreatic heterotopia. He conducts visits in English, French, and Arabic. Outside medicine, Dr. Khalil plays tennis regularly near his home in Bethesda, and follows Formula One racing with the same appreciation for precision and strategy he brings to patient care.
