Dr. Barbara Hrach earned her BA in Chemistry cum laude from Case Western Reserve University, spending her junior year at Philipps Universitaet in Marburg, Germany. She went on to receive her MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1992. Her internship and residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine took place at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She holds board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine, earned in 1995, and maintains it through the Continuous Professional Development Program. The American College of Physicians elected her as a Fellow in April 2005.
Dr. Hrach moved to California in 1995 and practiced with Foundation Health Medical Group in Ventura before joining Sansum Medical Clinic in Santa Barbara in 1996. She joined Dr. Richard Danson's private practice the following year, then launched her own solo practice in January 2005. In 2020, she purchased Dr. Danson's practice and laboratory, giving rise to Santa Barbara Doctors. She has conducted medical research at Case Western Reserve University, Harvard University, and the Centers for Disease Control. She supervises Nurse Practitioner students through a teaching affiliation with UCLA School of Nursing and teaches resident physicians at Cottage Hospital. She serves as medical director of Hillside House and the Jessie Hopkins Hinchee Foundation, which provide homes and medical care to developmentally disabled adults.
