Dr. Andy John Gray grew up on the Kokernot o6 Ranch in Alpine, Texas, and earned degrees from TCU, Texas A&M University, and Texas Tech University before graduating from Texas Tech School of Medicine in 1985. He completed an internal medicine internship at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri, then returned to Lubbock for his Family Medicine residency. His professors and peers recognized him early for his skill as a diagnostician. Many of those colleagues, and fellow physicians, have trusted him as their personal doctor.

In 2004, Dr. Gray co-founded PreferredMD with his late wife. It was the first concierge practice in Lubbock and among the first in the country. His childhood chaps from the Kokernot o6 Ranch hang in the office today. Outside medicine, he serves on the board of directors for the National Ranching Heritage Association and has contributed to its endowment fund. He also enjoys hunting, marksmanship, and cars.
