Dr. Surinder S. Saini earned Gold Medals in both Medicine and Pharmacology from Government Medical College, Amritsar, graduating at just 21. His academic record began early: he ranked first in statewide examinations in Punjab at age 11 and entered medical college on a merit scholarship at 16. After earning his LRCP from the Royal College of Physicians in London, he moved to New York City for a fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Beth Israel Medical Center. There, he trained one-on-one under Dr. Hiromi Shinya, who helped design the modern colonoscope and whose polyp research formed the scientific basis for screening colonoscopy. He also studied under Dr. Jerome Siegel and more than 30 of New York City's top gastroenterologists, developing particular expertise in therapeutic ERCP.
Dr. Saini holds board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology and has practiced at Fashion Island in Newport Beach since 1998. He served as Chairman of the GI Division at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and serves as Medical Director of Pacific Endoscopy and Surgery Center in Fountain Valley. In 2004, Dr. Robert Egan, the personal physician to John Wayne, retired and entrusted his patients to Dr. Saini after observing his work at Hoag.
