About
Dr. Robert Amrine founded Ascend Sports Medicine in Missoula after more than 25 years of clinical experience in family and sports medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree in athletic training before completing his medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine. His residency training focused on family medicine, and he went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at Boise State University, where he worked with top-level collegiate athletes. He holds dual board certification in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Amrine trained at Cyclologic, a recognized leader in professional bike fitting and biomechanics, and now offers medical-grade bike fitting using the VelogicFit 3D motion capture system. His clinical passions include overtraining syndrome, Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), VO2 max testing, metabolic testing, and performance-focused injury prevention. Missoula knows him as "Doc Rob" - a fixture in the mountain biking community for decades as both a racer and physician. He serves as race doctor for the Missoula XC mountain bike race at Marshall Mountain, an MTB US Cup event, and learned to ski on those same slopes as a kid. He brings the same lived experience of training hard, racing, and recovering to every patient he sees.
