Dr. Mark Ryan built his medical career around one clear purpose: showing up for communities that healthcare has historically underserved. He earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, then graduated from VCU School of Medicine in 2000. He completed his Family Medicine residency in Blackstone, Virginia in 2003, serving as Chief Resident.
After four years in private practice in Keysville, Virginia, Dr. Ryan moved to Richmond in 2007 to join Hayes E. Willis Health Center at Southside Plaza. He served as Medical Director there from 2014 to 2021. At VCU, he reached the rank of Professor and held the role of Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Quality for the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health. He also directed the I2CRP program, which trained medical students committed to primary care in underserved settings, and served as Medical Director for Global Health programs. Dr. Ryan led medical service trips to the Dominican Republic for 18 years and speaks fluent English and Spanish. Richmond named him a Top Doc three times and a Top Doctor in Virginia twice. His colleagues recognized him as MCV Physicians Clinician of the Year in 2020. He and his spouse Janet have called Richmond home since 2007.
