Dr. Kristen Dall-Winther grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, the eldest of four children in a working-class family. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin at age 20 and spent a year working as a microbiologist before starting medical school. She earned her MD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2004 and completed her Family Medicine residency in rural Belleville, Wisconsin, where she was selected as Chief Resident in her final year.

After residency, Dr. Dall-Winther spent a decade at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, serving as Patient Safety Officer, Medical Director for Value Analytics and Affordability, and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. She earned the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine Silver Quality Fellow designation and achieved patient satisfaction scores in the 99th percentile nationally. Her research under Dr. Victor Montori on shared decision-making and minimally-disruptive medicine appeared in JAMA Internal Medicine. She holds board certification in Family Medicine and fellowship status in the American Academy of Family Physicians.
