He earned both a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska. He then completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center. His residency training in Family Medicine took place at Michigan State University in Traverse City, Michigan, where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Johnson holds dual board certification from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine.
