Dr. John Cary, MD, earned his B.A. in Biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 1980. He went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1984. He then completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Mercy Hospital Baltimore, finishing in 1987. He holds board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine and fellowship status in the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Cary spent more than two decades deeply involved in the Prince William County medical community. He served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Prince William Hospital in 2009 and 2010, and held various hospital committee roles from 1987 through 2010. He co-founded the Prince William Area Free Clinic in 1992 and served on its board through 2014. He also served as Medical Examiner for Prince William County from 1990 to 2005. His clinical focus centers on internal medicine, preventive medicine, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular prevention, and healthy aging.
