Dr. Jennifer Houtman grew up in Kalamazoo, graduating from Loy Norrix High School and the Kalamazoo Area Math & Science Center. She earned her undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo College, then her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies and has held board certification in Family Medicine since 2003. Her training spans both inpatient and outpatient family medicine, with and without OB.
Dr. Houtman brings particular focus to women's health, obesity medicine, and functional medicine. She holds membership in both the Obesity Medicine Association and the Institute for Functional Medicine, and she is currently completing further certification in functional nutrition. She actively teaches medical students and residents from Western Michigan University School of Medicine. Outside her practice, she provides medical care to seniors in local assisted living complexes and nursing homes through Visiting Nurse Practitioners.
