James Nichols, MD grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and attended Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego. He earned his medical degree from Ross University in 1998 and finished his Family Practice residency at the University of Illinois, Peoria in 2001. He has held board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine since that same year and belongs to the American Academy of Family Physicians.
After residency, Dr. Nichols moved to Arizona and spent ten years practicing emergency medicine at Tempe St. Luke's Emergency Department and Wickenburg Regional Hospital. In 2007, he purchased Ahwatukee Family Medical Center and shifted his focus to family practice. Alongside his clinical work, he served as a Major in the US Air Force Reserve for ten years and received an Honorable Discharge. He approaches every patient relationship the way he would want a doctor to treat his own family. Outside the office, he enjoys tennis, mountain biking, and coffee, and spends time with his wife Amy and their family. A proud San Francisco native, he is rarely without Warriors gear.
