A South Florida native, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University. He then graduated from Southeastern University of the Health Sciences with a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1996.
Dr. Merlino holds board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also serves as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. At Mount Sinai, he directs the Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency Program. He also serves as Assistant Dean of Clinical Studies at Nova Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine.
