Dr. Douglas Cohen grew up in New York and completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University, earning a Bachelor of Science with Honors and Distinction in 1987. He then earned his MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1991. He moved to California to complete his Internal Medicine residency at UCSF in 1994, where he earned his board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

After residency, Dr. Cohen practiced in primary care, urgent care, and travel medicine before shifting his focus to Hospital Medicine in Marin. Over nearly two decades, he held leadership roles including Hospitalist Medical Director and Chief of Staff at MarinHealth during the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. In those roles, he led initiatives that improved healthcare quality and patient safety at MarinHealth. He holds fellowship designations from both the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine. In 2024, he returned to primary care to apply everything he had learned about complex illness and human health. Outside the office, Dr. Cohen enjoys time with his wife and three children, playing pickleball, backgammon, cards, and skiing. He also photographs the landscapes of Marin and beyond using a Fujifilm camera.
