Dr. Douglas P. Brooks grew up in Parkersburg, WV, graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1989. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from West Virginia University in 1993, finishing as a Presidential Scholar and Summa Cum Laude. He then earned his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1997. His Family Medicine residency took him to the University of South Carolina's Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, where he completed training in 2000.

Dr. Brooks holds board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine and an unrestricted license with the West Virginia Board of Medicine. Over more than 25 years in practice, he has taught medical students, residents, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. He has held faculty appointments at seven institutions, including Wake Forest School of Medicine, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and West Virginia University.
