Dr. Derek Husmann grew up in the suburbs of Houston and credits his blue-collar Texas roots for instilling a strong work ethic and resilience. He attended the University of Virginia on a diving scholarship, graduating With Distinction while studying economics and fulfilling his pre-med requirements. His faith deepened during those years through involvement in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and his local church.
Dr. Husmann earned his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine in 1998. S. Army through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. He began residency training in family practice at St. Francis Family Practice Residency in Wilmington, Delaware, then fulfilled his active duty Army obligation before returning to Texas in 2002 to pursue pediatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed that training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in 2005. After three years in private practice in Tucson, Arizona, he moved to Brenham at the end of 2008 and spent over twelve years caring for pediatric patients at the Brenham Clinic. Dr. Husmann holds board certification in pediatrics and now pursues training in Pediatric Functional Medicine. He is a committed member of Brenham Bible Church and considers Brenham his permanent home. He and his wife Sarah have raised their children in the community.
