Dr. David Barnes grew up in Newellton, Louisiana, a small farming community in Northeast Louisiana. His parents owned and operated a Western Auto store there for 50 years. They passed on a love of sports and activity that shaped Dr. Barnes throughout his life. He played every sport available growing up and maintains an active lifestyle today. His wife and adult children share that commitment, continuing to run and exercise regularly.
Dr. Barnes earned his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Louisiana Tech University in 1976, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Shreveport in 1980. He completed his internship and Family Medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, where he was selected as Chief Resident from 1981 to 1983. He holds certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and holds membership in the American Academy of Family Practice, the Louisiana Academy of Family Practice, the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Ouachita Parish Medical Society. After 39 years in general family practice, he affiliated with MDVIP to bring his passion for wellness and preventive care to the forefront for his patients. He has served on the Monroe Chamber of Commerce since 1987.
