, grew up on a dry land cotton farm in Haskell County, Texas. His father farmed the land; his mother taught school and worked as a special education counselor. He studied zoology at the University of Texas at Austin, where his psychology coursework ran a close second to his science classes. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he met his wife, Kathy.
S. Army's training program, which built broader clinical skills suited for both wartime and civilian settings. His military career took him from Fort Benning, Georgia to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and eventually to Madigan Army Medical Center near Tacoma, Washington, where he taught family medicine. After leaving the military, he spent 13 years in a rural practice in Mexia, Texas before moving to Waco in 1994. He practiced traditional fee-for-service medicine in Waco for 30 years and also served as lead investigator on several clinical trials. He and Kathy have raised four children and now enjoy eight grandchildren. Dr. Allison cites his faith as a guiding foundation for how he approaches patient care. He co-founded Patient First Direct Primary Care with longtime friend and PA colleague Mark Roberts to return to the kind of personal medicine he experienced as a child growing up in rural Texas.
